There are five different frequencies used in GPS. All these frequencies are within the L-band.

Remark:

o During the years the satellites became more and more sophisticated and meanwhile five different types of these satellites exist (Block I, Block II, Block IIA, Block IIR und Block IIF).

o Block IIF satellites are the fourth generation of GPS satellites.

o The GPS Block III is an initiative of the US Air Force intended to meet the requirements for satellite-based navigation and timing capabilities over the next 30 years.

o The first Block IIR-M satellite was launched in 2005. Block IIR-M satellites are a “modernized” version of Block IIR.

o L2 Civil (L2C) is a new GPS signal for civilian use on the L2 carrier frequency. Only newer GPS satellites (block IIR-M or later) are able to broadcast this signal.

o L1 Civil (L1C) is the multiple open signals that broadcast within the L1 frequency band.
